Whether your service business is a start-up, or one that is already established - identifying your target customers will ensure your marketing and sales effort is much more efficient and ultimately successful.

A number of techniques can be used, depending on the type of customer you want to reach, and the size and distribution of the market. The techniques include :
  • Using commercial databases to profile target customers by criteria, such as business type, location, and turnover / income range
  • Local directories and Chambers of Commerce to assess the numbers of potential customers in your local area or region
  • Market surveys using face-face, web-based, or telephone techniques to assess the interest of customers in your types of products and services.

From the information captured, you can then develop a profile of your target customers. This profile will include the following :

  • Geographic location(s)
  • Have issues or problems that using your service resolves
  • Business turnover / income band
  • Customer budget spend range for using your services
  • Comparison with similar services that these customers use
We suggest you don't assume that you know your target customer without first doing this initial research, as this could lead to costly and wasteful marketing effort later.

We can help you to identify your target customers, using our GrowthPlan service, and can supply you with lists of target customers for your marketing campaigns.
